Why a small home
The difference is arithmetic.
In a large assisted living community, one caregiver may look after fifteen or twenty residents. At Latham there are ten residents in the whole house. That single ratio is the reason families notice a difference within a week — call lights answered in a minute, a change in appetite spotted the day it happens, and staff who know a resident well enough to tell when something is off before it becomes an emergency.
It is also why the day feels unhurried. Meals are cooked in the kitchen and eaten together at one table. Residents keep their own furniture, their own quilts and their own photographs. Families visit whenever they like — there are no visiting hours, because this is a house.

Meals
Cooked here. Eaten together.
There is no cafeteria and no meal service. Food is cooked in the kitchen every day and everyone sits down at the same table — which, for a lot of residents, is the part of the day that matters most.
We cook to individual needs, including gluten-free, low-sodium, sugar-free and vegetarian diets, and we will happily make a resident's own recipe if the family shares it.
Rooms
Bring your own furniture.
Private and shared rooms are available, all on a single level with no stairs anywhere in the house. Residents are encouraged to bring their own bed, dresser, chair and pictures — the room should look like it belongs to them, not to us.

The day
Unstructured, on purpose.
Mornings are slow. Afternoons bring cards, music, visitors and time in the living room. There are organised activities — happy hour, wine tasting, dances, karaoke — but nobody is marched to them.
What most families tell us they wanted, and could not find at larger communities, is exactly this: a day that looks like a day at home.

We are a residential home on East Latham Street, close to the Scottsdale–Tempe line and a short drive from Old Town Scottsdale, Papago Park and HonorHealth Scottsdale Osborn Medical Center.
Most of our families live in Scottsdale, Tempe, Phoenix, Mesa or Paradise Valley, and being genuinely close matters more than people expect — the families who visit most often are the ones for whom visiting is easy. If you are weighing a home twenty minutes further away, that is worth thinking about honestly.
